Description

Via straightforward operation, the flash over voltage of dielectric oils can be determined by taking an oil sample from a transformer or switchgear and carrying out the fully automatic oil breakdown test. The test result enables plant operators to evaluate the condition of the insulating oil, allowing them to assess on the need for substitution of the oil.
The automatically generated test reports are provided in pdf-format and are stored on a USB stick.

Transformer oil testing with the BA series

Due to the ultra fast voltage switch-off at flash over (< 5 μs!), non-destructive transformer oil testing of synthetic oil, ester oil and silicone oil is possible!  Various predefined and fully automatic test sequences meet all relevant international standards, thus the models of the BA series fulfill all legal requirements of the mandatory transformer oil test.

Sequences are predefined for the following standards: VDE0370-5/96, ÖVE EN60156, IEC 60156/95, ASTM1816-04-1, ASTM1816-04-2, ASTM877-02A, ASTM877-02B, AS1767.2.1, BS EN60156, NEN 10 156, NF EN60156, PA SEV EN60156, SABS EN60156, UNE EN60156.
In addition the BA series are capable of performing single manually controlled measurements. Customer specific test sequences for transformer oil testing can also be programmed.

Typical transformer oil testing sequence

  • Dielectric oil is taken the device under test
  • Oil is put into the test vessel
  • Voltage rises with a slew rate of 2 kV/s
  • Ultra fast voltage switch-off < 5 μs at flashover
  • Measurement and recording of the breakdown voltage
  • Automatic oil stirring
  • Idle time of 2 minutes
  • Repeated voltage rise up to breakdown

Based on the procedure above breakdown voltage of an oil sample is determined six times in a row and the resulting breakdown voltage is calculated as mean value of the individual measurements.

Note: The lower the resulting breakdown voltage, the poorer the quality of the oil!’
The test voltage is automatically controlled and increased to a maximum level of up to 100 kV rms (BA100).

Handling and interface

The simple and intuitive operation of the instruments is achieved via navigation using selection buttons and a very bright integrated color display. The automatically generated report of the transformer oil testing sequence is available as a pdf-version and is stored to the internal memory.

As means of communication with the instruments a USB flash drive interface and a Bluetooth™ connection is offered. The integrated printer allows on-site printing and examination of a report of the transformer oil testing results.
